RESOLVED: Backup limit not being observed

Post by gregbeyer »

I have a nightly local backup setup which is working fine, except that the limit (10) is not being observed. I now have 26 backups in my backup location. I can just delete them occasionally, but that's not the way it's supposed to work, I don't think. Incidentally, the local backup is on a shared parition, so not actually on the local host (which would be useless in the case of a server failure).

Ideas why the oldest are not rolling off, per the settings, and how to resolve appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for letting us know about this! I'm running some tests to confirm this on my own system -- if it appears to be broken for me I'll file an issue.

Hi Greg,

I was able to confirm that my own XI system is able to respect the backup limit. What do you see when you click the "Test Permissions" button on the Scheduled Backups page (Local tab)?

"The directory is likely not writeable by user 'nagios' - check permissions." Which is odd, since nagios IS writing backups every night. And it was "The directory exists and is writeable." when I set it up months ago. But I did check permissions, found my backup folder has a different group ownership, so I've chown'd to nagios:nagios and its again exist and writeable. I'll see what happens tonight, let you know.

That does sound like forward progress! Fingers crossed this resolves the issue, but let us know if it doesn't. If not I'd be curious to know what the contents of your apache logs are around the time the backup happens.

That was the problem. Limit is being observed now.
