eMail monitoring

I would like to reduce the number of "success" email alerts that I receive. Is it possible to configure Nagios to wait for an email (I assume that it would poll a mailbox(es)) and send out an alert if an email has not been received in a specific window?
For instance I have a number of database dumps on an hourly and daily basis. I would like Nagios to be able to check every hour if a confirmation email of the backup with the subject line "Database XYZ backup complete" has been received. Once a day (24X&) I'd like to check for an email with subject line "Database ABC backup complete" has been received. The process should remove the "source" email.
