RESOLVED: Windows Machine Showing as "Down" When Unplug from Ethernet

Hello,

I've noticed when I am plugged into ethernet, my laptop that I am monitoring will have the "Up" status in XI. However, when I unplug from the ethernet and I just use WiFi, my laptop has a "Down" status. I think the IP address is changing when I unplug. Is there a way to fix this? Is there something I configured incorrectly?

Thank you

Hi @k234,

Thanks for reaching out. As far as I know, you have two options. The simplest solution would probably be to give your laptop a static IP address (one that does not change). Another option would be to setup DNS & DHCP and assign a hostname to your laptop that will resolve to the current IP address.

Hello @k234,

Note that if you configure a static IP for your laptop, you will need to set your static IP for the interface you are using for Ethernet as well as for the one you are using for Wi-Fi.
I believe the best practice would be to have your router's DHCP server set your Laptop's MAC address to be assigned a consistent IP based on that MAC address.
