Nagios enable_notifications not working

Hello,
I'm trying to disable all notifications on my Nagios Core server. Initially, I modified nagios.conf by setting enable_notifications=0. This worked, and I saw a red notification in the GUI stating "notifications are disabled." When I reverted the changes, everything functioned normally, and the red message disappeared.
Later, I went to the GUI and selected System -> Process Info -> Disable Notification. The command seemed successful, but the red message didn't appear. I then went back to System -> Process Info -> Enable Notification, and now I can't disable notifications at all. Even if I change nagios.conf and restart the service, there’s no change—the red message doesn’t show, and notifications continue.
How can I reset the effects of any GUI command (like enabling/disabling notifications) that I've executed?
