Internet Explorer, staying ontop of the bugs.

I've noticed that there are two ways of changing the group members using core config manager.

Example1
Modify a host group. When I click the edit icon that looks like a notepad and pencil it brings up another window called "Modify selection: Members". Here I do the left or right thing and click Save or Abort. All good.

Example2
Modify a service group. When I click the edit icon it displays the modify selection with the left/right arrows underneath the Save button. I notice that if I add a service to the box on the right it does not actually do this even after applying the configuration.

However this is where things get strange, as I modify the same service group again and click the edit icon the popup window appears as in Example1, NOT as I've described in Example2. I've noticed this in numberous sections of nagios. Sometimes it shows the membership boxes at the bottom of the screen, clicking the edit icon makes the group membership show the membership below but I've never had it successfully save the membership changes when they are done this way.

I've always had success with group membership changes when they have been done with the popup window.

Anyone else seen this problem?

I am using the XI virtual machine that has been imported to ESx 4.0 Update 1. I orginally downloaded 2009R1.1C, upgraded to 2009R1.1D. The symptoms above were from the 2009R1.1D.

I upgraded last night to 2009R1.1F and this problem is still occuring.

All my management has been using IE 7 or IE 8.

This sounds strange - it could be due to a browser compatibility bug with IE. Do you have the ability to test this using Firefox or Safari to see if the problem affects those browsers as well?

I'll give Firefox a go. I've got a bunch of configuring I need to do on my eval Nagios XI server so I will do all of it using Firefox and report back.

Seems like this issue must be Internet Explorer related.

I spent about 8 hours using Nagios XI with Firefox and the problem did not appear at all.

I will try and see if I can determine what is causing IE to have issues.

So after some playing around in IE I am unable to replicate the problem, it seems to happen randomly.

When I am modifying a particular service
I have a copy of the source code from the browser when it is working correctly
I have a copy of the source code from the browser when it is NOT working correctly

Both files are the same length however the last line is different.

Working OK:
</html>
_WEEK_FO

NOT Working:
</html>
?this.ea

Not sure if this is at all relevant but this is as much as I can work out at this point in time.

I can email these source code files through if it helps.

not supported on Internet Explorer 6???

Hi All,

ok, I know it is a ridiculous question, does XI support IE 6 (6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2 .. ), since no matter what I do with my ie (log as admins, set security to lowest, enable all ie security setting), XI makes my ie freeze. is there any prereqs to make it work, or it is just don't work on ie6. tested with ff, and ie7 under vista went fine.

since i test on corporate network, where currently ie6 is (un)fortunately the standard.

thanks,
mik

I have two things to say to that at the moment:

1) Since IE6 has now been deprecated by Microsoft, I wouldn't anticipate too much work going into backwards compatibility fixes if they are needed. I know the "your company should upgrade" approach doesn't really help you, but it may turn out that's how it is.

2) I'd be happy to test this, but I have to find a box that still has IE6 on it, which may be a challenge... I'll report back if/when I learn anything.
