Hi,

This is my first post on the Nagios forum and therefore I apologize if my question is very simple. We need to implement a monitoring solution and we are considering to use Nagios. One bit which is not clear for me if it's possible to monitor Windows Services or Linux process which are not part of standard applications (ie exchage, apache, iis, ...) without any plugin or agent installed on the destination machine. What I read in internet so far is that to do so it's required to use NSEClient++

I would appreciated if somebody could confirm or not what I have just explained.

If you are using Nagios XI there are Wizards for this. Some use agents, other use SNMP, and yet others use check_by_ssh on Linux or WMI on windows..

Thanks for the quick response, however I would like to know if there is some kind of rule to know which method is used? For example if a create a new application which installs as a service and I need to monitor it will the wizards be able to capture this new service?

I'm a bit clear but I would like to know if it's possible to increase the number of services to be monitored through WMI which avoids having an agent.

If you are asking how to increase the number of service monitoring fields in the WMI wizard the default is 4, however you can run the wizard again with only services selected under the same host. You could also add these service check's manually under the CCM.
