Applying Configuration page - more info please

Hi there,

Recently I had to add a Service Template to 42 services, to get rid of >1000 configuration "Warnings". I only learned about the warnings when Gavin saw them while he was tailing the messages log for some other reason.

I would have spotted the problem (a new service created with no check time & without a service template & then copied 41 times) in time for it not to grow this big, if when applying configuration changes via the CCM, it had shown me more than just success or failure, but actually showed just a little more info.

This is the current offering: -
Applying Configuration

Command submitted for processing...
Waiting for configuration verification......
Configuration applied successfully.

Success! Nagios Core was restarted with an updated configuration.

Even if you could grab the 2 lines which begin with "Total" that'd be enough to realise your config, though successfully passing the pre-flight checks for errors, needs tidying a bit.

Something like this would be eminently more helpful: -
Applying Configuration

Command submitted for processing...
Waiting for configuration verification......
Configuration applied successfully.

Success! Nagios Core was restarted with an updated configuration.

Total Warnings: 1027
Total Errors: 0

Could you submit this as a feature request at tracker.nagios.com, please? I can see where this change would certainly be useful, however as you mentioned the present view is a bit cleaner and appropriate for most people. Most will use the write config tool for checking additional warnings and errors if needed.

Done. I think it's the "if needed" which was in question, when there's too little info to tell, making it easy to get into quite a state without knowing it; Just after a 1 or 2 line heads-up if there are warnings :)

That would be a nice addition for the Apply Configuration button though it does already exist through the Write Config Tool. We shall see what the almighty dev's think. :)
