need info on contactgroups

We have imported all files for around 250+ servers.

We have contactgroups (consisting of multiple groups, DL's or individual contact) specified for each host and services .

Now we are planning to change format of having one contactgroup per program and add all the notified person to that contactgroup to reduce redundancy and add that contactgroup to notifications

Is it enough if we update the new contactgroup in host file.Does all the service alerts will go to this group or do we need to update contactgroup in all service file also

You need to manage contacts & contact groups via the CCM in the Nagios XI.

You can add/remove members to/from contact groups by going to:

Core Config Manager->Contact Groups

The easiest way to add/remove contact groups to/from hosts or services in bulk would be via the Bulk Modification Tool. (You need to purchase Nagios Xi Enterprise Edition or at least start a 60 day free trial):

Core Config Manager->Tools->Bulk Modifications

Yes, we are doing through ccm only .

If i need to add a new contact group for a server. Do i need to add it to both host and services or only adding it to host is enough

In Nagios XI/Core Host and services behave as separate objects as they can both alert, so you would need to assign the contact groups to the services of the host, and the host as well if you want to receive alerts for it. This can also be done in bulk with the bulk modifications tool if you have a copy of Nagios XI Enterprise edition.
