Host vs. services alerts

Hi,

When a host is unpingable, I'm getting 2 down alert notifications and afterwards 2 recovery alert notifications.

Alert 1:
Host: WEB-2
State: DOWN

Alert 2:
Service: $
State: $

I suppose alert 1 is a host alert and alert 2 is a service alert.

Is it possible to don't generate a service alert/notification when a host goes down?
Also, why am I receiving a "$" sign in the service alert?

Kind regards,
B

Yes, if you would like to only get notifications for the up time of a host's IP then you can disable notifications on each service through the Core Config Manager > Services > "Select the Service's Name" > Alerts > "Set the Notification Enabled Radio Button to Off."

Could you show us an example of the "$" in your service alert?

Hi slansing,

I just want to know when a host is pingable or not. I this a service rule or a host rule? How to avoid a double notification?

I attached a screenshot of the alert.

Kind regards,

Is this service set up right? Pull up the host "WEB-2" in XI and look for a service named "$". Post a screenshot of that service's config in XI.

When you set up a host in xi, the host alive check is an icmp ping check. So if you set up an additional service to check ping, it will be redundant.

Hi abrist,

I deleted the redundant "ping service".

Now, when I block ping in the firewall, I still get a double alert. 1 host alert and 1 service $ alert, but there is no service "$". How can I troubleshoot this issue further?

Kind regards,
B

Open up a ticket with [email protected]. I will pick up the ticket and we can deal with it there. Attach you most recent config snapshot to email as I am going to dig into your configs for this one.
