Hello, we are trying to implement the feature
service_description *
for service escalation from the graphical interface in Nagios XI 2011R3.2 and we see it is not possible
We have tried to do it from the text file serviceescalations.cfg and import and it doesn' t load properly
Looks like a lack of funcionality of the version
We need to know if there is a workaround for this and if this issue has been fixed in any newer versions
Thanks a lot

service_description *
Will only work if all of the hosts selected have the same exact services.
In 2012 Enterprise version we did include an escalation Wizard that dramatically decreases the complexity in setting up escalations.

How can I find this "Escalation Wizard" to make my life easier?

The wizard is located from the Web UI at > Configuration > Tools > Escalation Wizard. Let us know if you need help navigating it.

Thanks. I did find it, but I am sort of confused on how it works.
This is what I want to do at the simplest level.
1. Services goes critical, alert the primary person.
2. No ack after 10 mins by the primary person. Alert the secondary person. Also redo primary person.
3. No ack by either after 10 mins. Alert third person so he can go and wake up the first two so that they will fix the issue.
I do not see anywhere to configure alerting more than set of defined people.

Make this person the standard contact for the host.

Make an escalation for this contact and host/service. Set the "first notification delay" to "10".
3. No ack by either after 10 mins. Alert third person so he can go and wake up the first two so that they will fix the issue.
Make another escalation for this contact and the host/service. Set the "first notification delay" to "20".
You set this on a contact group or individual contact basis. You can also add multiple services/hosts/groups to these escalations. When on-call shifts change, just chnage the delays on the escalations.
