Hi
Would like to know is there any agents on Nagiosxi to monitor HP Unix devices
And if i want to monitor a Unix box should i be selecting the Linux device and carry on with the wizard?
Will installing the same Linux agent on the Hp unix box create any issue?
please help
Basically am trying to monitor disk space on unix boxes
Thanks
Jeff
HPUX agent
Re: HPUX agent
That's correct, it should work with the Linux agent.
There are pre-compiled copy of the applications used. If combined with our config file everything should be fine.
Let us know! We do have an HP box for testing, but havn't used it thus far.

Re: HPUX agent
I think your best bet might be the Static Linux Agent, although we don't do a whole lot of testing with straight Unix, so I couldn't tell you for sure. I'll defer to my teammates and see if they have a better solution.

I know that NRPE (which comes with XI) should also let you run checks on a Unix machine, so I would think it should work.

Re: HPUX agent
The Static Linux Agent will not work on anything other then Linux and FreeBSD using the Linux emulation layer.
HP has no such emulation layer that I'm aware of.

Re: HPUX agent
Ok Ok getting totally confused here
So you want me to go ahead with the same agent that I used on the Linux right??

Re: HPUX agent
My apologies, do what mmestnik recommends
Re: HPUX agent
It's hard to say unless I felt I was totally clear on what Agent you used on Linux.
You should use the same software used for Linux. It should either be installed from source(hard) or from pre-compiled binaries specifically for HPUX, these exist as provided by the HPUX community... If you find some that work perhaps we may host a copy.
The software used by the Agents is NRPE with the Nagios Plugins. Note that some of the Plugins may not work the same as they do under Linux. Any information you can provide us would be appreciated.

We know that others were able to do this, but we have not done so. RedHat Linux utilities like yum are not going to be installed on HP, but POSIX layer tools are. You'll need to know if you have a compiler or if you need the GNU one(gcc) and wight the pros and cons of these descisions. Instead I'd look for pre-compiled binaries.
Take a look at this and do some other searches.

Re: HPUX agent
Hi,
I have tried following the steps to install Nagios- as given in the document in HP-UX environment.
But I found, the script trying to install or looking for viz., yum , rmps etc. in the absence of it throwing an error.
Just clarify some points for me to install in HP-UX.
Is anything compatible package available for HP-UX corresponding to yum or set of rpms, so that I could install Nagios.
Could you please prescribe set of scripts for HP-UX environment.
I would be grateful if you could guide me to install in HP-UX 11.11.
Rgds
