I ultimately attached my drive to another Lubuntu VM and expanded it with gparted - but if anyone has any ideas on how to do this live with the physical volume (no logical volume???) I'm all ears.

I know there is a tutorial out there on expanding the default disk size for the VM that nagios NA comes on; however my machine doesn't appear to have the logical drives.
