Monitoring Contact Group Strategy
Monitoring Contact Group Strategy
We are currently working on our notification strategy. I am basically trying to accomplish the following. ( See Attachment) I think the only way for this to be accomplished would be to create a group that only alerts on host down / up and recovery then add the proper user accounts and apply the groups to the hosts. Next create separate contact groups A , B , C and to notify on unique services. Ultimately I want everyone to know when a given server is down but I may not want my Unix team to know that the there is high CPU usage on a windows server. Is it possible for a given user to successfully be in multiple contact groups ? When I create unique notification templates and apply them to two unique groups the setting do not seem to be cumulative on a given user that is a member of both groups.

Re: Monitoring Contact Group Strategy
Your thinking is absolutely correct. You will need a "all" contact group for host notifications specifically. Then you will want individual contact groups for your differing contacts that need only see certain notifications on services. Contacts definitely can be added to multiple contact groups without issue. What do you mean by notification template? Is that a contact template?

I meant this template. I was over-thinking the whole process during my testing. Thanks for your feedback !

Which template does the contact end up using to send notifications? I would presume that whichever one is used for the service contactgroup should take precedence, and would only use the host contactgroup template for a host related notification as the service contactgroup would not apply to the alerted host object.btemple wrote: When I create unique notification templates and apply them to two unique groups the setting do not seem to be cumulative on a given user that is a member of both groups.
What behavior are you experiencing?
