Backup Nagios XI server

Hello,

As I was told we have three licenses (PR, Test and backup) and my test server has been installed some time ago, I've been wondering how to start with the backup XI server. Can I setup a new Nagios XI server and in case of emergency execute the restore procedure and import a backup in the Nagios XI backup server with this procedure: http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... ios-XI.pdf

How is this generally done?

You could mirror your XI configurations from your main server over to the backup system so if something were to happen to the prod server, you could switch right over. That is how we most often see this done. You can also offload backups from prod via FTP / SSH in XI 2014 from Admin > Scheduled Backups.

When I restore such a backup in the backup XI server, everything would work as expected? Are there configs that are not included in a backup?

Everything should be included in the backup other than custom stuff that you implemented outside of the nagios filesystems. You will need to configure any sdks or other packages on the backup server as well.

Well, I'm not really convinced of the use of a backup XI server. As it's a virtual machine, restoring a full VM doesn't take very much time and is probably much less work than setting up and maintaining a third Nagios XI server.
