Currently it looks like the "Change a single config option" only works for hosts and services. So you can't make changes to a host or service group. I can put in a feature request to expand the functionality. Task ID 3397 created for expanding Bulk Mod functionality. Bear in mind this would be a pretty significant change so I can't really speak as to if/when it would be implemented.

Thank you for the effort, tmcdonald :)

So let me ask this, what exactly are Host Groups and Service Groups intended for if not to make bulk modifications with?

Thanks,

Commonly, host groups are used to group a common set of hosts together and then to assign that group to a service. That way you can have the one service definition for n+1 hosts. It makes maintenance easy and if you want to change one setting then that setting is applied to all hosts using that service. However once you want one of those hosts to have a different setting then you need to go and create a seperate service for that host.

Service groups have multiple uses.
It's a great visual aid to create a service group that has one service type for multiple hosts, like all C:\ disk usage checks for all hosts.

Host and Service groups can be used for service dependencies as well.

Here's some tips and tricks:

Thanks Box293,

I'll read through the object tricks documentation and write back if I have any question.

Please feel free to close this thread.
