Services alternate between Critical and OK

Hello,
I've just added a few servers configured identically all on the same subnet. They all report OK except for one. It's services alternate between OK and Connection refused by host, and not all the same services. Disk check goes critical, and memory is normal. Load goes Critical and disk goes green, OK, and then another servers flips... The client is relatively idle, not much happening on there as far as load, cpu disk io etc.

What status information is shown when it goes critical? This almost sounds like an intermittent network problem.

It comes back with Connection refused by host. I don't think it's a network issue, this server has to communicate with other servers and if it has any connectivity issues at all, it will show up in the app. I'm willing to entertain that thought though... What are your thoughts?

It's also displaying the flapping icon now on the services that keep flipping... /home /var and CPU stats are the only ones that are staying consistently OK.

Connection refused by host definitely seems like a network issue. Are you using NRPE to perform the checks or some other method?

Is there anything running on the remote machine that might temporarily block an IP for too many connections in a period of time?

Yes, I'm using nrpe. There isn't anything blocking but it might be using a fair number of connections as it does interface with a bunch of external devices so it might be bumping up to a limit somewhere. I'll check and let you know. Thanks!
