What methods/processes are available to aid in monitoring Amazon EC2 hosts which may have hostnames and/or IP addresses that change (because Amazon sometimes does that to their virtual systems)?

I'd take a look at Configure > Deadpool as a tool to automatically decomission hosts/services and also the following talk:

They set up a process to decommission systems once they were brought down and automatically add them when they were brought back up. I believe their names may have been changing in the process as well.
