Monitoring Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris

There hasn't been much work on the packaged Solaris client, so I wouldn't expect something for it anytime soon, much less for SPARC architecture.

Today, I had to install a Linux agent. Seems like 6 months since I've done this, and my mind drew a blank. So I went back to your website, followed the clear, simple instructions, and was on the road quite quickly. Once again, Kudos for packaging the Linux agent so well. It really makes life easy.

But to keep this old thread alive, I'm sure many customers are still hoping for a solution to Solaris monitoring. Something that works even half as slick as your Linux agent would be welcome.

Any updates on this?

We added a wizard that will interface with existing agent installs on any Linux/Unix machines:

But I'm assuming you're looking for a fresh installer for a Solaris agent?

Yes, a nrpe client that installs on Solaris 10 (maybe 9 too?) without all the ssl library problems. A "productized" installer package like your wonderful one for Linux would be nice, but I just want to get the darn things monitored and run plugins on them.

There *must* be a lot of sites running Solaris, if for no other reason than as an Oracle platform. I'll let Oracle Grid monitor Oracle, but need to have Nagios monitor the Solaris hosts, and so far it's been some success and a lot of failures. I know Linux clearly has the market share, but these are large expensive machines and core to medium size corporations like us.

A platform-indepandant approach, like the one Tony seems to be working on, would be ok too.

Just as little update, there has been work and last I heard it was nearing testing with a new monitoring scheme build solely on shell scripts. Once we get to a point where its considered stable enough to let customers try I will contact you and see if you're interested in it.

Seriously though, please include me when you have something to test. We have a lot of Solaris 9 & 10 boxes that are considered "production" and need to be monitored.

Yeah, bear with us on this one. : ) We've got a new developer/tech with a solid Unix/Solaris background, he'll be starting in a couple of weeks and this is going to be one of his priority projects, particularly the Solaris agent/wizard.
