We are looking at solutions in addition to the existing Nagios Network Analyzer capabilities that will backup device configurations and restore them. Has this been given any thought for a future release?
Thanks, Marcus
Feature Request
Re: Feature Request
I don't believe so, but it is an interesting idea. I will bring this up with our developers and see what they think about it.Has this been given any thought for a future release?

Re: Feature Request
I second this. We dropped Solawinds when we switched to Nagios and this was the only feature we missed out on. We still use Solarwinds, but literally just for this feature. Solarwinds stores the device's last 5 configuration changes and also allows for mass distribution of config changes (say adding a single line of config to every single switch in your network), which are really handy features. If Nagios can come up with a similar solution we'd be able to drop Solarwinds altogether.

Re: Feature Request
I'm honestly a little confused as to why they would include a backup utility in a netflow product. While I certainly understand why this would be useful, it seems awfully far outside the scope of NNA at this time. We will definitely still bring it up, but I will be honest in that I don't think it will be included.
Nagios-Plugins maintainer exclusively, unless you have other C language bugs with open-source nagios projects, then I am happy to help! Please pm or use other communication to alert me to issues as I no longer track the forum.

Re: Feature Request
The config backup utility wasn't part of their netflow product, it was part of their Network Performance monitoring product. To be honest, something like a config backup/deployment utility (in my opinion at least) might be better suited to a product like XI. It'd definitely be a good addition to Nagios, but I do agree that NNA specifically may not be the best product for it.

Marcus, is it safe to lock this topic now? Did we answer your question?

Re: Feature Request
Yes, you can lock it up, but before we do I would like to recommend you consider the configuration backup feature as a part of Nagios XI or wherever you decide to put it. We also are in the same dilemma with Solar winds, and only using it because of the backup feature capability but would like to remove it altogether.
Thanks,
Marcus

Re: Feature Request
mrochelle, I created a feature request for this on tracker.nagios.com. ID 574, feel free to take a look and add any input you might have on the feature to the request. The more people to show interest the more likely it will be to get worked on.
