ContactGroups on hosts and services

Post by luniversity »

So I'm trying to wrap my mind around how notifications work when contactgroups are added to hosts as opposed to services. For example, I have a host that has several groups assigned to it; I also have services for that host that have no groups assigned but I still get the notification when the service alerts. So my question, or my assumption is that the notifications are being sent based on the groups associated with the host!? I'm hoping someone can point me to some documentation that will shed some light in my dark world.

The contact groups are inherited from the host (that the service is associated with) via "implied inheritance", unless they are specified on a service level. Please, read more on the topic here:
