Inbound Outbound Checks With NRDP

Post by toodaly »

I have been able to get passive Inbound/Outbound checks with NRDP to work in the past. Now I'm trying to write a procedure to do this and it is not working.
Here are the steps I used.

Inbound Check Host
Click Admin -> Inbound Transfers
Copy NRDP Authentication Token

Outbound Check Host
Click Admin -> Outbound Transfers
Global Options Tab
Check Enable Outbound Transfers
NRDP Tab
Check Enable NRDP Output
Enter IP addresses, protocol to send checks (HTTP), and Authentication Token
Click Update Settings

Inbound Check Host
Click Admin -> Unconfigured Object (Nothing)

I can see in the logs that checks are being sent on one side and received on the other side, but nothing shows up in the Unconfigured Objects list. What are some troubleshooting steps I can try?

Also, on the Configuring Inbound Checks PDF, under NRDP Configuration, it says to click the Update Settings button to save the NRDP settings. However, when I click Update Settings, it gives me an error and says NSCA password needs to be set (or something like that).

I'm currently using XI Version 2012R2.9

The actual error message that I got when I clicked Update Settings on the NRDP tab was "NSCA password cannot be empty."

I put in a dummy password in the NSCA tab ("ABC"), went back to the NRDP tab and clicked Update Settings. Nagios XI said update successful. Now I'm getting the unconfigured objects I was expecting. In past instances I had attempted to use NSCA which is why NRDP worked for me in the past. It looks like all is fine now.

Yea, that's a bit annoying. It is technically all one HTML form which is why both fields have to be filled. Glad it is working though. I'll be closing this thread now, but feel free to open another if you need anything in the future!
