/var/log/messages file permission issue

Post by nagarjuna »

Dear Team,

As we have configured log message monitoring in SuSE Linux for /var/log/messages file, every alternate day its giving alert for configured hosts.

Error: Log check error : Log file /var/log/messages is not readable

we have manually change all system's log message file permission.

Please suggest and help us on it.

It's possible that you need to modify the permissions in the "/etc/logrotate.d/syslog" file. I am not a SUSE guy though, so I may be wrong.

This error is coming from the remote host? And the log file is changing permissions there? Sounds like something you might want to get in contact with your Sys Admin about, if it's not on the XI server, it doesn't sound like a Nagios issue specifically. You might want to check your rotation methods and see if the event log is getting re-created every other day with incorrect permissions.
