Custom Icon Column

Post by WillemDH »

Hello,

Just made a feature request http://tracker.nagios.com/view.php?id=578 to ask for an extra column right next to the service / host name, where all the icons could be placed. I got this idea from check_mk. Please let me know what you think of it. In check_mk, it is not possible to add custom icons linking to actions. Wouldn't this be a nice idea to implement in Nagios XI and also make a seperate column for all the icons? As now the Nagios XI icons tend to get on the second row if the status information is too long, which makes the overview kind of chaotic..

I added a screenshot of the check_mk implementation.

Pls let me know what you think.. :)

Grtz

Willem

It is a nice feature request, though we would need to add some new code to core to make use of this idea. I bet this is on the extended wishlist.

Sure Andy.

I'm just so convinced this is really worth it. We are only using two functions a lot.

1) Schedule new check
2) Create Infra Support Request trhough quick action, which also contains acknowledgment of the problem service.

All the other options are only used circumstantial. Not having to go into the details view and then clicking on the desired action, saves a click for each problem and allows you to stay in open service problems. This doesn't seem so much, but for users handling 100's of service / host problems a day, this really saves some valuable time.

Would it be 'easier' (read faster implementable) to not use an extra column and instead use the existing icons? So, apart from the acknowledged, graph icon, service / host icon, another icon could be added that would execute the linked quick action? The 'extra' column is in fact just for the tidyness of the web interface, but the added value for not having to go into service detail, is much greater.

Have you tried using the mass acknowledge component for:
  • Acknowledgements
    Downtime
    Immediate checks

Andy,

Yes we tried that, but this is not really the same as
- The list is not automatically updated
- It seems not possible to execute custom actions ? Like with the quick action linking to a bash script that will create a call.

Please let me know if one of the above is not correct.

Anyway it was just an idea to improve nagios XI.
