Cisco Backup Config
With NagiosXI or NNA, is there the ability to manage config backups for network devices?
Re: Cisco Backup Config
Aside from backups of their own configs, XI and NNA do not handle backing up any other devices.

Re: Cisco Backup Config
I have a feature request for this exact functionality. If you'd like to see it added as well, please feel free to comment. The more people interested the more likely it'll get attention and be put into motion.

Re: Cisco Backup Config
Feel free to do so, though if you are referring to network device configs, I doubt this would be considered in scope for what XI does.

Re: Cisco Backup Config
Yeah, it would definitely be outside the normal scope and would have to be an addon function. Scott commented on the request asking what kind of functionality we'd want from it and mentioned that it'd likely be a separate product with an additional cost. This makes perfect sense as it is definitely not within XI or NA's normal scope, and any Nagios competitors that I can think of that do have this functionality implement it as an addon to their monitoring solution, it's not bundled in. Solarwinds, for example, offers network infrastructure monitoring in it's main product (similar to XI) and charges extra for the Network Configuration Management software. I imagine Nagios would be no different if such a CMDB solution were made, and would have no problem's paying an additional cost for that functionality.
Re: Cisco Backup Config
It's certainly an aspect of IT management I've thought would be nice to have in the Nagios lineup, but yea I have to go with the general consensus on this one. A separate product would be the way to go. Certainly something we could discuss at the next meeting.

We'll leave this thread open in case there is any one else who would like to express an opinion on this feature request. Thanks.

Re: Cisco Backup Config
If this does end up making it's way into development (which would be fantastic, since it's literally the only reason we still pay for anything from Solarwinds), I would definitely like to express a desire for it to be easily integrated with XI. I agree that it would have to be a separate product, but the convenience of integration with XI, or even NA is pretty clear. Best case scenario would see such a product being able to be installed directly on an XI or NA server, rather than requiring its own server. If that's not possible, well it is what it is, but that's definitely something I'd like to see if it is possible. I've also expressed that desire on the feature request. Will keep my eye on the request, thanks for looking into it!
