SNMP and Auto Updating in NagiosXI

Post by mberkley »

We monitor dozens of core swtiches for our data center, and properties.

Is there a way that we re-scan a core swtich that we already monitor, and expect the changes in port name, to be updated in Nagios?

You can absolutely run the wizard again to update things. There are some gotcha's though. You will want to keep the same scanning and naming convention of either port number or name, as it will duplicate services otherwise. You should also be aware that if you choose to use names, and those names have changed since the last scan, it will likely duplicate these services. This is because we are happy to modify identically named services when running a wizard, but because we want to allow you run it a second time with the potential to add different services, we can't automatically remove differently named ones.

Aside from those catches, rerunning the wizard works fantastic, and both nagios and mrtg should be more than happy with that.
Nagios-Plugins maintainer exclusively, unless you have other C language bugs with open-source nagios projects, then I am happy to help! Please pm or use other communication to alert me to issues as I no longer track the forum.
