Problem with hostgroups

Post by niebais »

Hi,
I'm evaluating NagiosXI right now and I wanted to make our setup for hostgroups be set up geographically. For example, I want to set up a U.S. hostgroup and then inside that put "California" as another hostgroup. The U.S. will contain multiple hostgroups. The problem is that when I created these groups in the gui and clicked on "Apply Configuration" I got an error and it doesn't work. Does Nagios support this type of setup? If not, it shouldn't allowed in the GUI. If it does support this type of setup, please let me know what I need to do to get this working.

Thanks.

Well, I answered my own question on this. It appears that the grouping is a little different then I expected. I thought that I could have a "US" group which would contain no hosts, but would show the "California" group inside it with all the hosts. It just displays it differently.

The problem was that the secondary group must have members in it or it causes an error.

That is an interesting quirk, although I suppose it makes sense.

Btw, there is some more information related to the type of thing you are doing in the document on http://library.nagios.com/library/produ ... -nagios-xi, although that may actually have more than you need, so you can just skip through to the parts that interest you.
