Can't Read Status Map

Post by cwscribner »

Hi all.

I'm working on setting up proper parent/child relationships in XI to produce a correct network map. Right now I have 600 devices all lumped together and completely unreadable. How can I force them to spread out? Can I set a "margin" option to force them to be x pixels apart?

Also, when setting up the parent/child relationships, they should be physical relationships not logical ones correct? For example, if there are several switches on a network you could have 172.22.2.2 in switch1 but 172.22.2.3-10 in switch2 so you wouldn't have 172.22.2.1 as the parents to .2-.10, it'd be the IP's of the respective switches instead of 172.22.2.1 correct?

cwscribner,

Yes, thats correct. The parent/child relationship is in regards to phyical connections with respect to the Nagios server. BPI is geared towards logical relationships.

Also, no, there isn't a way to increase the size between objects in the Status Map, its a compiled binary and doesn't refer to outside files for sizing.

Also, have you checked out the Hyper Map? Its available on the Nagios Library under the Customer Only Downloads, and its pretty neat, a welcomed improvement over the Network Status map. :)

BPI is a sweet little plugins that allows you to determine logical sets of checks, and turn them into something that allows you to see how particular facets of your organizations are working. There is a pretty slick doc that is written up for it, check it out!
