Service detail slowness

Post by WillemDH »

Hello,

Some parts of my Nagios XI gui are becoming a bit slow. The server has already 6 cpu's and only an average load of 2. It also has 4 GB RAM of which 3 GB is free. So I don't think adding more cpu's or memory will help. Storage is SSD SAN array, no cpu wait since we moved to it.

I'm talking about the following part:
Going into service details can take 2-3 seconds, while this was almost instant in the past. I have the feeling it became worse, after adding more tabs. So I have now the following tabs:
- Standard tabs: Overview, performance graphs, advanced, configure
- Capacity Planning
- History
- Notes
- Reactor Event Handler

As we are thinking about buying nagios Log Server and Nagios Network Analyzer too, I really fear this will further impact the loading of the service details. is there anything I can do to speed things up, besides removing tabs?

I know 2-3 seconds might not seem a lot, but if you have to work all day with Nagios, this can get really annoying. I've use Chrome developer tools to see which parts are slowest. So apparently the history tab and the Capacity Planner are the slowest, followed by the reactor handler tab. I would really keep using these tabs, but it needs to be faster somehow or we will just have to stop using some of them I fear...

Any tips / advice beside removing tabs or adding more cpu's are welcome.. :) Imho 568 + 516 for the capacity planner, 550 for the history tab and another 209 + 210 for the event handler and the core components, the latency start getting very bad. Imagine adding the Log Server and Network Analyzer component.. :|

Can you check the i/o wait on the XI when you open up the details for a host?
(should be "xx.x%wa," in top)

Hey Andy,

Somewhere between 0,02 and 2,2 %wa. mostly somewhere between 0,7 and 1,7%

I attached a screenshot for you form last months cpu stats. DO you think my disks are too slow? It's already SSD - SAS array. I don't think I can make the storage faster atm...

I want to see this first hand - as you are leveraging all of our software integrated into XI with the respective components, I would like to do some investigation. Maybe we can take a look at the potential time issue with the timeline while we are at it. Open a new ticket and lets do some sleuthing.

Andy,

Ok I'll open a new ticket. Thanks for looking into this. Imho it's kind of important to give users a smooth Nagios experience.

Going to lock this up since we have the ticket. I have already replied to it so we will continue there.
