License information should be retained with upgrade

Post by eloyd »

We did some CentOS updates today on our NLS server. Restarted the system. Then we did an update from NLS 1.1 to 1.2b and restarted the system. After logging in, it said that we were back to a demo license.

Clicking on "enter license information" showed that our license key was still in place, and clicking "set key" made everything okay.

Has anyone else seen this when upgrading? I would think that if the license is still valid, that the upgrade would not make you simply click click to make it valid still.

And another oddity - prior to logging in (after upgrading) it says we're running 1.2b. After logging in, it says we're running 1.1 and need to upgrade.

I'm pretty sure I saw the same thing and did the exact same steps as you. I didn't follow up on it though.

I don't experience this.

FYI. I have done a complete yum update, but did not see any license issues.

@WillemDH,

The problem occurred after the Nagios Log Server update, not the yum update.

This may be because the update check only runs daily.

Does it say 1.2b in the lower left corner of the page?

Ahhhh. If the update check runs only once per day, that makes sense, except that it says 1.2b (correctly) prior to logging in and 1.0 after.

Before:
Nagios Log Server • 2015R1.2b • Check for updates
After:
New version available! Download - You're running version 2015R1.1 but version 2015R1.2b is the latest version available.

Maybe it was cached in your web browser. Try clearing that and see if the version is correct.

I did it from a non-cached browser. More importantly, the licensing information:
Clicking on "enter license information" showed that our license key was still in place, and clicking "set key" made everything okay.
I don't really care so much about the version information.

I am going to attempt recreating this, and perform any fix for future releases.

Thanks for reporting this Eric!
