Primary and secondary contacts? How to manage alerting?

Post by tonyleatwork »

Hi -

What do you guys recommend for managing and sorting alerts? With a large enough environment, regardless of how well you management it, you will eventually be overloaded with alerts if you try to be sensitive enough to your environment.

In our environment we have primary and secondary owners for each application / system. One of the users suggested we list both primary and secondary owners in the To: field and CC: field respectively for notifications so our e-mail rules will catch it.

Do you guys have any suggestions or best practice that you have gained from your experience for notification management that you can share? Thanks!

I would use escalations. Make the primary receive the first X notifications and the secondary gets them as well past that point.
