I am guessing it is use_retained_program_state, lets run the following:

Code: Select all

grep retained /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg

Spot on Scott - well done!

Code: Select all

 #use_retained_program_state=1
use_retained_program_state=0
This config is from one of my Prod environments where I run a Hot DR , so this was changed to stop the DR server taking over after importing the Nagios backup.
I changed it back to 1 and it is now working as expected. Sorry to waste your time with this Scott.

Now that we have got past this issue, can something be done about the Grey buttons for the disabled processes in the Engine Process Monitor screen ?
I see that the Disable Icon "X" is also grey whereas the tick icon to enable is green ?

Again thanks for taking the time to diagnose this Scott.

regards... Fred

What exactly is the issue - the color... or perhaps the action button is "grayed out" and you are not able to click on it? Can you show us a screenshot and explain? Thanks!

EngineProcess.PNG
You can see the Notfications are Disabled and it has a Red Dot
Event Handlers, Service & Host Obsession are also Disabled but they have a grey dot - they should be Red

The Disable Icon ( "X" Symbol) is grey for all the processes but is not actually "greyed out" - you can click on it. Not sure if Red is the right colour for this - maybe Blue or anything except grey?

Notifications is one of the most important functions in XI, hence the red color. It needs to "stand out" in case you disabled notifications globally. It is a matter of "importance" (if I can explain it this way).

OK - would have thought event handlers would be in the same category as notifications?
Perhaps Yellow might be a better colour for "non-enabled" services ?
It's only a cosmetic thing, but usually grey is used for icons/buttons, etc. that you can't select.

I don't want to hijack your thread here Fred but hey it's too late now

I've always thought the ticks and crosses on this screenshot are the wrong way around.

When I see Notifications with a tick it sends the message that it's OK ... except that the circle is red ... which is bad for colourblind people ... different shapes combined with colours are better for colour blind people.

I think the tick should be a button that says "Click to Enable" or the X should be a button that says "Click to Disable".

No problems at all Troy - especially when you agree with me ;)
It's a fair comment - it's not intuitive. Admittedly a box does pop-up when you hover over the tick or cross.

Fred, you have a point - this could be somewhat improved. You are welcome to post a feature request about the improvements that could be made in displaying the "Monitoring Engine Process" info. Let us know if you want to do that. Otherwise, I will be locking this topic. Thanks!
