The options of what Nagios can do to react to a problem are limitless through the Event Handler process:

http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/ ... dlers.html

For a nice tool useful for creating Event Handler type recipes look at our Reactor product:

http://www.nagios.com/products/nagios-reactor

It is only limited by how much automation you want to build into your event handlers.

So that's right - we don't support our products commercially on anything besides RHEL or CentOS Linux. We do best-effort support for our general forum users to help them irrespective of their platform and we even appreciate when someone does something on a platform that we haven't. With enough creative sysadminning I think you could probably get Reactor functional on Ubuntu, but our default install process will not work for you.

If you have hope to build an elaborate or big-scale environment using Nagios products (as you indicated in the first post of this thread) I would recommend using RHEL or CentOS as your starting platform. If you don't you will be battling uphill and will find it much more difficult to appreciate the value in the suite of products. We'll never turn away from helping you on the general forums, company-wide though our preferred and supported platform are those that are RedHat based.
