check interval and storage of performance data

Post by vmesquita »

What happen when you change the check interval regarding the storage of performance data. Say I changed from 15 minutes to 5 minutes, for instance. Will less data be stored than if it was originally set at 5 minutes from the momment the service was created? Or it doesn't matter?

Performance data is collected and stored as RRD information. This RRD information is designed in such a way that it will stay one size during its lifetime, therefore check intervals will not influence storage capacity.

You can learn more about RRD (Round Robin Database) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RRDtool

Thanks!
