Re: XI services needed on Mod Gearman Remote Server
During our implementation, working with our Nagios consultant, we installed XI on our local XI server and remote workers. On the remote workers we permanently shut down services (i.e. mysql, postgres, etc...). Then, deployed all the various plugins we use on local XI server to the remote workers. This way all the nagios directory structure is same across all servers and installation for XI and Mod Gearman were also consistent.
Re: XI services needed on Mod Gearman Remote Server
On the Remote Gearman Worker server. The only service that needs to be running on it is the mod_gearman_worker.
Any of the other "Nagios" services that are running on it should be shutdown and disabled from starting up.

OK, so based on what you have said for using remote XI servers, all those servers do is execute checks and send results back to the gearman Master.
tgriep is correct. What you are seeing on the worker are side effects of using an XI server as a worker. This has been confusing the troubleshooting.

The following services are running on the remote gearman worker server:
npcd
ndo2db
nagios
There are 972 files now in the /usr/local/nagios/var/spool/xidpe directory which i cleaned late yesterday on the remote worker.

Re: XI services needed on Mod Gearman Remote Server
Thanks! I'm good now. I did shutdown the remaining services and no files are being created in the '/usr/local/nagios/var/spool/xidpe' directory on the remote workers.
