Yes. Following rseiwert's suggestions I disabled the check_wmi_plugin debug issue and the ndo2db problems did go away. Clearly the volume of string data generated by that plugin, and the quantity of places on a Windows OS heavy network, that we were using was too much for XI to keep up with.

We have also taken rseiwert's suggestion of truncating the output of that plugin using his 'fix'. WMI may end up being more of an OS load than running NSClient but its attractiveness was not needing to install other client software on the remote hosts and simply enabling the RPC port to allow remote WMI calls in to the box in question.

We're still tuning the Nagios install as its still running hot but I think we'll address this by splitting the DB, Apache and Nagios roles out to multiple machines. The VM appliance was great to get up and running quickly but as we need to rely on Nagios XI more over time we need to ensure we've not got a single point of failure.
