Nagios XI 2012 R2 Upgrade Method

Post by saif »

Hi Nagios Team,
Currently we are having Nagios XI 2012 R2 7, installed on Centos OS 6.5 (x64) on Physical Blade. We want to virtualize and upgrade it to the latest version 2014 R2, we have two options in our mind,
1) To convert current Physical server to Virtual (vmware P2V) and then upgrade to the current version
2) Second option is to Freshly install Centos 6.5 or 6.X latest version on a VM and install latest version of Nagios and then restore backup from current Nagios to new VM

Which method is the best way, please guide me.

Option 2 will be a bit easier I would imagine, but keep in mind that doing a restore from a backup will restore to the XI version the backup was made from. You can still do this, but after the backup you will need to re-upgrade.
