ESXi monitoring
Can anyone suggest me a plugin or way to monitor ESXi nodes through snmp and by not taking the shell login to the machines.
Re: ESXi monitoring
ESXi does not provide SNMP access, but you can use Box293's vmware plugin to do it: https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/P ... re/details

This isn't exactly true - actually it's falseeloyd wrote:ESXi does not provide SNMP access
Code: Select all
[jdalrymple@localhost libexec]$ snmpget -v 1 -c public <ESXi-IP> SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0
SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-2068190 VMware, Inc. x86_64Although depending on your needs and what you have configured beforehand it may behoove you to still follow eloyd's advice - Box293 or check_esx3 are probably still better solutions.eloyd wrote:you can use Box293's vmware plugin to do it: https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/P ... re/details
Re: ESXi monitoring
NO WAY!! I've been looking for SNMP for ESXi for years and stopped looking because I never found it! I've never been happier to be wrong!
Thanks!
Thanks!

eloyed,
Have you used box293? Does it require a shell access to ESX boxes?

Re: ESXi monitoring
It does not monitor the guest operating systems, it monitors the host ESX or ESXi server. Read the manual at https://exchange.nagios.org/components/ ... 0&cf_id=29 to get an idea as to what you need to do.
@Box293 is also on the forums and twitter and at box293.com if you want to ask him for help with the plugin.

avijit_bhardwaj,
To answer your question about shell access, yes you do need a shell access to the VMWare servers.

It does not require shell access.avijit_bhardwaj wrote:eloyed,

It runs on the VMware vMA Appliance. Please read the first couple of pages of the manual for the plugin as it clearly explains how it works.
