Disabling Host checks on a host group
I have created a host group to throw our non production devices in. We then go and disable the host checks for that hostgroup.
The host ckecks don't run and all appears well. However, after going back and checking a day later the host checks on these devices have ran. Does disabling the host checks expire after a certain period? Is there a way to make this period last longer?

Re: Disabling Host checks on a host group
Do you have any other admins that might have re-enabled them? Do you have retain_state_information set to 0 in your /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg?
What XI version is this?

There is another admin but he would not change it. The retain state is "retain_state_information=1". Our XI version is 2.7

Did you look for clues in the audit log?
Admin->Audit Log
Can you recreate the issue? Have you rebooted the server after disabling the active checks for the services in your hostgroup?

Re: Disabling Host checks on a host group
I can't find anything in the audit log that shows that someone changed it back.
For the time being we just set a downtime for all the devices in the hostgroup so its hard to tell if the issue has been recreated. We did not reboot the server after disabling the host checks.

Alright.
If you use a ramdisk, it could have filled (or been disabled), damaging (or losing) retention.dat and forcing it to be recreated.
