Can gcc compiler be removed after installing NRPE agen

The gcc compiler is required when installing the XI Linux NRPE agent as per sub "1-prereqs" in the "fullinstall" script. Can the gcc compiler be removed after the Linux NRPE agent is installed? What will be broken for NRPE agent if gcc compiler is removed? Thanks!
