Hi Nagios Support,
Good day.
We're planning to upgrade our hardware specification of our Nagios Server.
We are current monitoring 329 hosts and 1712 services.
These are the hardware specification of our server.
Hard Drive Space - 120GB
CPU Cores - 4
RAM - 8GB
We are deciding to upgrade our server since we noticed that the Nagios memory utilization was high during major changes in the status of hosts/services.
Can you recommend a hardware specification that can handle these number of services that being monitored?
Thank you and have a nice day.

Re: Nagios Server Hardware Upgrade
For your 1712 services, what is the common monitoring method used?
NRPE, SNMP, WMI, Perl ?
This is our document for hardware sizing:

Personally, I always go more 2-3 times more memory than what your system uses when it is "healthy". When hosts and services fail, more memory is consumed when event handlers and notifications are triggered.

Re: Nagios Server Hardware Upgrade
For our Nagios service monitoring, we mostly monitor network bandwidth by using SNMP checking.
But it was a hybrid of monitoring services.
Since we also have a number of downed hosts, the memory consumption was spiking.
With a fairly high number of downed hosts and services, should we adjust the hardware specification of our server?
Can 12GB of memory would be enough to handle the high memory utilization of our Nagios server for monitoring downed hosts? Or should we go to 16GB of memory?
Thank you for your response.

I would recommend going to 16GB. RAM is not so expensive nowadays, and you will need to leave some room for growth. Can 12GB of memory would be enough to handle the high memory utilization of our Nagios server for monitoring downed hosts? Or should we go to 16GB of memory?

Hi lmiltchev,
Thank you for recommending a RAM memory specification.
I'll coordinate with our team if it is possible to increase the memory to 16GB.

Thank you for your usual support.
