Hello All,
I am setting up Nagios XI 2011R1.7 with the VMWare Player on an XP system.
When I enter a new host to monitor The host name and IP address are the same, I would like to change the name to a friendly name like "Exchange Server" or Accounting PC.
Thank you for your help,
ACL

Re: Change Host to a Friendly Name
Currently the "host name" is what is displayed in the status tables. You can leave the host address the same but update the name to something more friendly for user viewing.
Re: Change Host to a Friendly Name
When you run a Monitoring Wizard, and enter the IP address of your host, after clicking on the "Next" button, you will see one box with the IP address entered (that you can not edit) and one - with the "Host Name" that you can edit. Just enter your friendly name ("Exchange Server", Accounting PC, etc.) in this box and proceed with the wizard.
Hope this helps!

Re: Change Host to a Friendly Name
If you already have your host created, you can still edit the host's name through the Nagios Core Config Manager.
Go to: Configure->Core Config Manager and click on "Hosts" under "Monitoring" from the left panel menu. Find your host and click on the "Modify" action button. Under the "Common Settings" tab, you can modify your host name - just enter your friendly name into the "Host name" text box, click on "Save" button and then click on "Apply Configuration".
