Unknown traps

Post by snapon_admin »

Is there any reason, other than not having the correct MIB installed, that a trap message would end up in the snmpttunknown.log file? I'm trying to receive traps from an oracle grid server and the test traps keep coming up unknown even though I have the correct MIB installed.

When you say that you installed the MIB, did you just put it in /usr/share/snmp/mibs?

Did you run addmib on it after?

Code: Select all

addmib /usr/share/snmp/mibs/YOUR-MIB-FILENAME
If yes, did you restart snmptt?

Code: Select all

service snmptt restart

Please post the relevant entries from your /var/log/snmptt/snmpttunknown.log and the trap that it relates to from your /etc/snmp/snmptt.conf file.

Nope, that's where I've been watching for it but I can only see anything referencing the trap in the unknown log.

It is an unknown trap because you do not have a trap in your /etc/snmp/snmptt.conf file for .1.3.6.1.4.1.111.15.2, you have sub-OIDs such as .1.3.6.1.4.1.111.15.2.0.1 but not the base.

For example, you could add this to your /etc/snmp/snmptt.conf (I wrote this trap from their available information, I have no idea if they provide it anywhere, I couldn't find it):

Code: Select all

EVENT oraEM4Traps .1.3.6.1.4.1.111.15.2 "Status Events" Normal
FORMAT The variables included in the oraEM4Traps trap. $*

Yep, that did it, it's showing up in unconfigured objects now. It's showing up as the IP of the host instead of the hostname, but I think that has to be configured on the sender side, yeah? Thanks, I hadn't noticed that the base OID wasn't in there.

Ideally it should be changed on the sender side, it has to match exactly though, you could change it for the trap if the hostname is being passed in as a variable but then you would have to change it for all the traps.
