How to add a contact to all servers and services

Post by isat-iad »

Hello,

We have a requirement to add an individual contact (or contact group) to all configured servers and services in XI. Our existing contacts have been created via Admin --> Manage Users and contact groups have been created via CCM. We are not using templates unfortunately. Hosts/services have different contacts and/or contract groups configured. Ideally, we would like to be able to append/add an additional contact. Can we do this via a script run against the *.cfg files in /usr/local/nagios/etc/services for example? Or is there a better / safer way?

Our environment info: Nagios XI 2014R1.4 (we can upgrade if it makes this task easier) manually installed on physical RHEL 6.5 x86_64.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

The easiest/safest way to add a contact or a contact group to hosts/services in bulk would be to use the Bulk Modifications Tool that ships with the Nagios XI Enterprise Edition. If you don't want to purchase Enterprise, you could enable a 60-day free (fully functional trial) and get the job done. :)

Thanks for your response. We actually have the Enterprise edition and tried your suggestion and worked perfectly. Many thanks for your help and you can close this thread if you wish.
Thanks again,
