Apply config sometimes breaks passive checks?

Is there any known reason why applying config might sometimes just randomly break my passive checks? I have a handful of passive checks that will just stop working sometimes when I apply config. It seems completely random and I have yet to nail down a cause for it. Applying config again has fixed it every time so far, but it's still odd that this happens.

It shouldn't, are you seeing anything in your /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log when the issue is occurring that might be related?
