Hi All,
we bought Nagios XI license already. we want to monitor 7000 linux ubuntu machines via this nagios.
we are planning to deploy the nagios on a VM with nearly 48 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD using RAID 10 and ofcorse we are having clustering also
in this case which are the best options ? may i know them ? please answer the following questions.
1. Monitoring via single VM is good ? or monitoring via different VMs is good one ?
2. using Distributed environment is good ? like DNX ?
3. can i install nagios XI on multiple VMs in my environment using the same license ? ( the license is allowed unlimited hosts )

Hi mcitpashok,
First off, if you purchased XI, you should be posting in the customer forum. If you are having issues accessing this, please contact [email protected] and they can get you set up. With that out of the way...

For the number of checks you want to do, using a single VM is fine if I understand this question correctly. You may want to look into adding a RAMDisk if you notice any performance issues.1. Monitoring via single VM is good ? or monitoring via different VMs is good one ?
DNX is a bit outdated, and is not being maintained. If you need to distribute some of your load to another machine, mod gearman is the method that we generally advise people go with. I would try to set up your environment without planning on using gearman initially, as it is not our project. https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios_XI.pdf2. using Distributed environment is good ? like DNX ?
I am not sure what your licensing situation is, you'll need to contact [email protected] for specifics.3. can i install nagios XI on multiple VMs in my environment using the same license ? ( the license is allowed unlimited hosts )

Short answer - each Nagios XI installation that is monitoring production hosts needs its own license. You may have purchased a site license or bulk license, so you will need to check. You cannot, however, apply one license to multiple machines just to separate the load.[email protected] wrote:3. can i install nagios XI on multiple VMs in my environment using the same license ? it depends of course how many services each host will have and what the check interval will be, but I think for monitoring 7000 Linux servers, you might have to distribute some load with mod gearman worker nodes. And you will probably also need to tune your Nagios XI server and maybe offload the database.
