jdalrymple wrote:NCPA is in its infancy, NRPE is mature. Right now the NCPA product is in bugfix mode only as the company seeks out the new python developer (Nagios Enterprises employee as it were) to continue it's development. The original primary developer is no longer with the company. Of course it's also open source so any community pull requests for furthering the product are reviewed and considered.

Regarding the project appearing dead... the last commit was just prior to us hunkering down for the XI5 release. We all agree that it's not ideal that other projects are a bit ignored during the XI5 build and release, you have to understand XI5 is the flagship product, and version 5 has been arguably the single biggest release since the product was first released. Everyone in the company had their hands on it. I'll kindly ask jomann to look over the issues in GitHub and respond as he sees fit.

As for the python runtime, NCPA has a binary installer for all supported platforms that loads the necessary runtime and static libraries as needed. As mp4783 indicated can be compiled to run on "non supported" platforms.
Thanks for the info. Just 2 final questions
Does NCPA support all the external vbs, exe, bat & powershell plugins?
Is NCPA able to monitor scheduled tasks, services, processes, event log, ports etc?

Yup

This question kind of reads like "Does NCPA do everything that nsclient does" and the answer would be no it doesn't. It is fairly capable though:

Monitor scheduled tasks: NSClient can't either to the best of my knowledge natively, but thanks to willemdh there is a good plugin for this application.
Services: Yes
Processes: Yes
Event Log: Not natively, requires plugin
Ports: do you mean interface traffic, or just that a TCP/UDP port is listening, or firewall configuration? Of course no matter what the answer is yes, but the Interface traffic is the only thing it does natively, and it doesn't parse it out by port - Windows itself doesn't do that I don't think.

In this case, it is usable. Just worried if it is ready for production use.

We are of course still adding functionalities to NCPA, but it's a pretty solid bit of code as it stands.

That being said, are we alright to close this thread?

Then in that case I will close it anyway since it has been a week since the OP has replied. If the thread must be re-opened, either myself or another tech can be PMed.
