How 2 setup SMS alerts to phones in Nagios Core 4.0.8

Hi group,

We're running Nagios core 4.0.8 under CentOS 4.9 (yes, a bit outdated). Nagios is currently configured to alert admins via email and pager, but we want to shed the pager and have alerts sent to our smartphones (IOS & Android) instead.

I'm hoping someone here could provide me with any suggestions, documents, instructions as to how and make this alert-to-phone work.

Here are a few different routes you could go to set this up.

1. Purchase a SMS modem to run onsite that would send out messages.
2. Use a provider that has an API, and corresponding addon built on our exchange @ https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/A ... ations/SMS
3. Replace alert emails with a corresponding text email address. A list of phone -> email addresses can be found at http://www.emailtextmessages.com

All of these options are viable, but you will have to decide which one works best for you based on your environment.

All of the admins use Verizon,so would you know if thats meet the provider API specs you mentioned?

Yes, there should be an addon that would work.

Alternatively, you could set their contact email to [email protected] (replace 10digitphonenumber with their actual number), and that will send a text message right to their phone.

I just saw that option in the link you sent earlier for Verizon. To me, that sounds like the simplest change to make. I'll give that a shot and see how it goes. Thanks again for your input!
