Yum update??

Post by rajasegar »

Is doing yup update on a nagiosxi 5.2.3 with mod_gearman safe?
We want to sync up all our instances to RHEL 6.6.

I am worried, some of the updated packages with screw up nagios or break nagios plugins, especially mod_gearman etc.

Anybody tried this before?

I would say that, in general, this should not cause issues. Regardless I would be sure to take proper snapshots/backups before an update just to be on the safe side. There are some specific versions of software (particularly PHP) that have caused issues in the past, but a downgrade to a working version almost always solves it. Plugins generally are not affected, however with gearman I would be careful. Recently we have seen some Core segfaults occur when gearman is used. There does not appear to be any pattern as to versions in use, and there have been only a few cases, but I think it is worth mentioning.
