It would be nice if users(i.e. non admin) could define there own personal host or services groups , that then would allow the use of the host group commands against the hosts grouped:
when scheduling downtime or disabling/enabling alerting for a group of servers not already defined in a host group it would be a lot easier. Would probably be beneficial for reporting also.
User defined host groups
Re: User defined host groups
While I agree that this feature would be useful, it would be difficult to implement due to how inheritance currently works with hostgroups. https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... tance.html
We would almost have to generate a new 'type' of unit for grouping hosts/hostgroups together - like logical groupings. What do you think?

Re: User defined host groups
just some sort of way a standard user could group hosts together to make administration easier, it doesn't necessarily need to be a integrated with the nagios core more an xi feature maybe. I have a group of hosts I want to schedule downtime for, I logically group them in the interface and apply then downtime to the group of them, maybe if I could save the group so i can use it for repeat actions in the future. Doesn't need to be shared across users or anything, just something to make some tasks easier when working with a number of hosts
Re: User defined host groups
I have filed a feature request for this, ID #7482. With that said, do you mind if I close this thread out?
