explorer.exe down on server

Post by jriker1 »

I have a process checking that explorer.exe is running on a Windows 2012 R2 system. It fails unless I physically remote into the desktop and leave it that way. Is this normal and I should remove this check? Also checking the web service is running so not sure what verifying explorer.exe gives me anyway.

Thanks.

IIRC, explorer.exe is the GUI basis for Windows. I'm not sure if the program needs to run, if no user is logged in. What are you trying to monitor specifically?

Honestly, no clue. That is one of the default items that I think are set in the default listed of items with NSClient++ so have been monitoring explorer.exe by default.

Thanks.

If it does not matter in your environment, I'd say you're good to delete the service.
